How to Spot a Scammer on Reddit
π‘οΈ The Golden Rule
Always check our directory of Reddit users first. If a name appears on the Known Scammers list, block them immediately. If they aren't listed, they are "Unknown"βproceed with extreme caution.
π¨ Red Flags that our Data Shows
- π
80% of scammers have 0-10 Karma. Scammers create "burner" accounts. If the account is new or has no activity on a different subreddit, proceed with extreme caution. r/ticketresale does not allow any posting from 0 karma posters.
- π
30% are repeat scammers. Scammers hit multiple subreddits (concerts, sports, festivals) at once. Always check our directory and their Reddit post history.
πΈ Fake Proofing
Don't trust photos or videos blindly. Modern software makes faking a screen recording easy. Always check Google to see what the official ticket layout (Ticketmaster, AXS) looks like this year.
"The Double-Sell Scam": Scammers often steal photos from legitimate sellers and pretend they are theirs. Ask for a specific "Proof of Identity" (e.g., a photo of the ticket screen next to a piece of paper with your username and today's date).
π³ Safe Payment Only
Never use "Friends & Family" options. If they insist on these, they are likely scamming you:
